Filler treatment

With a proper filler treatment from Betan Clinics, you can prevent signs of skin ageing.
Wrinkles and loss of volume are caused by the ageing process of the skin. One of the most popular
treatments to treat wrinkles and loss of volume is a filler treatment, in which a filler agent is used. The agents used are perfectly safe.

How is filler treatment performed?

A filler treatment at Betan Clinics is professionally performed by doctors who are both Dutch and European certified. The disruptive wrinkles and facial areas with little volume are filled with natural material, administered with a few small pricks. In this way, for example, deep and superficial wrinkles can fade, the lips can become subtly fuller, dark circles under the eyes disappear, and the facial contours improve. The result is a fresh, youthful look.

Verschillende fillers

Wrinkles and loss of volume are caused by the skin’s ageing process. One of the most popular treatments to treat wrinkles and volume loss is by using a filler. The disruptive wrinkles and facial areas with little volume are filled with a few small pricks. In this way, for example, deep and superficial wrinkles may fade, lips may become subtly fuller, dark circles under the eyes may disappear, and facial contours may improve. The result is a fresh, youthful look…

As the facial volume decreases over the years, the skin sinks. This causes the prominent nose-lip folds, mouth folds and drooping jawlines. Other frequent changes are that the cheekbones have less volume. The result is a more square shape of the head instead of the youthful beauty triangle that provides a radiant, fit look. All these discomforts of ageing can be treated naturally to make you look as young as you feel.

At Betan Clinics, we use advanced, non-permanent (temporary) fillers of reliable brands. The fillers contain water and a hyaluronic acid gel. Hyaluronic acid is a product that occurs naturally in the body. Hyaluronic acid occurs in the space between cells in the body and has a natural ability to bind water between the cells. As a result, hyaluronic acid protects the cells and acts as a cushion. Hyaluronic acid keeps the skin supple and resilient. The moisturising effect keeps the skin smooth and firm. The production of hyaluronic acid decreases with age. This causes a decrease in the elasticity and moisturising capacity of the skin resulting in the development of wrinkles and dry skin.

The fillers used by Betan Clinics are known for their exceptionally beautiful, subtle and even results. They are absorbed very well into the skin with an even volume distribution. These fillers also show a natural increase in facial volume and rehydration of the skin. The transition between treated and untreated areas is very gradual. The advantage of the fillers used by Betan Clinics is that it can be combined with the anaesthetic lidocaine. This makes the treatment a lot more comfortable for you. Treatment with these fillers also produces long-term results but is always temporary. The effect remains visible for up to 12-18 months, depending on the type of treatment, skin condition, lifestyle and age.</>

The fillers we use at Betan Clinics are known for their exceptionally beautiful, subtle and even results.

All fillers used are completely pure products, do not contain any animal components, are 100% biodegradable and rarely give rise to allergic reactions in the skin. The composition is such that if you touch the treated skin, you will not feel the filler. The hyaluronic acid in the filler is concentrated in very diluted form and does not affect your health.

Difference between fillers and botulinum toxin

Don’t confuse fillers with botulinum toxin. Botulinum toxin works very different from fillers. Botulinum toxin causes muscles to relax temporarily, preventing wrinkles and other lines from forming. Fillers fill a wrinkle, line or crease. Botulinum toxin is used for so-called dynamic wrinkles formed by different facial expressions and fillers are used for so-called static wrinkles caused by the ageing process. The similarity between fillers and botulinum toxin is that they make wrinkles fade and in this way, give a vital, fresh appearance. The results of both injectables are temporary.

At Betan Clinics, a free, no-obligation consult is scheduled before you consider undergoing filler treatment. During this consult, your request for help will be discussed with the plastic surgeon, and it will be checked if you qualify for a filler treatment. You will have plenty of time to discuss your wishes. The plastic surgeon will give you free and honest advice on which treatment will give the best result. Together with you, a personal treatment plan will be drawn up. The plastic surgeon will explain what outcome he or she expects to achieve. Keep in mind that the plastic surgeon cannot guarantee a result, because not everyone reacts the same to a filler treatment. During the interview, the implementation of the treatment will also be discussed.

If you schedule an appointment for a consult, you will receive a digital medical questionnaire from us. This questionnaire contains questions about your general health and other critical medical matters that the plastic surgeon should be aware of. Because you have already filled in the questionnaire at home, there will be more time during the consultation to discuss your wishes and questions.

Fillers can be used to treat different areas of the face, neck, décolletage and back of the hand. Fillers are mainly used to fill in lips, reduce vertical lines on the upper lip (smoker’s lines), reduce lines from the corners of the mouth to the chin (puppet lines), give volume to sunken cheeks, soften the nasolabial fold and give more volume to the jawline.

If you agree to a filler treatment, the plastic surgeon will ask you to sign a treatment agreement so that you and the plastic surgeon are well informed about the treatment and expectations. The plastic surgeon will also take some pictures so that the result after the treatment can be evaluated together with you. The photos are securely stored in your own medical file. Only if you give your own explicit, written permission, photographs can be used for other purposes, such as a scientific presentation.

Before the treatment takes place, women should remove any make-up, and the skin of the area to be treated should be thoroughly cleaned. The plastic surgeon injects the filler into the area to be treated with a very thin needle. Depending on the chosen treatment, the plastic surgeon will ask in between for your lips to spout, frown or laugh. This allows the plastic surgeon to assess the wrinkles and volume. The filler is injected in a few steps. The plastic surgeon massages the skin around the injection to distribute the filler evenly.

As soon as the filler is injected, the volume is immediately restored. The skin becomes visibly more elastic, and the facial contours improve on the spot. The moisturising effect of the filler makes the skin look firm and radiant again. The treatment takes an average of 15 to 30 minutes, depending on which parts are treated. The punctures can be somewhat sensitive, for which we use an extra anaesthetic to make the treatment as comfortable as possible. Depending on the depth of the wrinkles and folds, the plastic surgeon injects the filler superficially or deep.

The skin becomes visibly more elastic and the facial contours improve on the spot.

1 to 2 hours after the treatment, the anaesthesia will have worn off. After the treatment, the skin may look red and swollen. This is a normal reaction that is usually mild to moderate and usually disappears the same day. It is possible that there is a bruise, which will disappear after a few days. You can camouflage a bruise very well.

The effect of a filler is immediately visible. The wrinkles may already have disappeared partially or even completely. After 1 to 2 weeks, the result can be optimally assessed because any small swellings will have completely disappeared by then.

Recommendations for the aftercare of a filler treatment

After the filler treatment, you can cool the treated skin at home to alleviate any pain or sensitivity. Avoid pressure on the face for the first few days and avoid contact with the injected skin. Avoid sun radiation on the treated skin for one week and use a sunscreen daily. We advise you not to go to a sauna or solarium for one week. It is also advisable not to exfoliate, peel or microdermabrasion the treated skin during the first two weeks after the filler treatment.

Immediately after the treatment, the result of a filler is visible. The skin may be a bit red and swollen on the spot. This pulls away within a few days or is even gone the same day. The final result is easy to assess after 1 to 2 weeks. The result will last for an average of 12 to 18 months. This can differ from person to person because everyone reacts differently to a natural, non-permanent filler. The effect will gradually diminish over time.

The plastic surgeon has discussed the expected results with you beforehand. He will paint the best possible picture of what you can expect from the treatment.

After a filler treatment, some local redness and swelling of the skin may occur. This is a normal reaction of the skin and is only temporary. The redness and swelling will disappear within a few days. There is a small chance of a bruise that will disappear within one week. This has no adverse effect on the final result.

At Betan Clinics, only non-permanent fillers (temporary fillers) are used. Permanent fillers are nowadays forbidden in the Netherlands. They consist of non-natural components and therefore cannot be broken down by the body. This can lead to unpleasant complications, such as infections, the formation of hard lumps or sensitive capsule formation. The non-permanent fillers used at Betan Clinics are 100% natural and completely biodegradable by the body. These fillers have been used millions of times worldwide and usually show no complications.

The cost of a filler treatment depends on the region or several regions being treated. One region is smaller than the other, and one wrinkle is deeper than the other. The price is calculated based on the amount of filler that needs to be used to achieve the desired result. Before treatment takes place, the plastic surgeon will always discuss with you what a treatment will cost you, so that you know exactly where you stand. At Betan Clinics, there are no unexpected costs that have not been discussed with you beforehand. For an overview of the rates for filler treatments, go to our rates page.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Fillers are used for a variety of purposes, such as reducing wrinkles and lines, filling areas with high volume loss and accentuating facial contours. This way, for example, smoker lines, marionette lines and dark circles under the eyes can be reduced. Other examples are filling in lips, cheekbones, cheeks or the jawline.

Betan Clinics only works with A-brand fillers from reliable manufacturers that are temporary in nature and give the most optimal, natural results. All fillers used by Betan Clinics have been extensively scientifically tested for efficacy, safety and durability and have been used millions of times worldwide. The special thing about the fillers we use is that they are absorbed very evenly into the skin and that the fillers cannot be felt when touching the treated skin. An additional advantage is that the fillers can be well combined with anaesthetics so that the treatment is comfortable for you. The result can last up to 12 to 18 months. All fillers used are 100% natural and are biologically degraded in the body.

Botulinum toxin and fillers are both injectables, i.e. agents injected with a thin needle. Both products cause wrinkles to fade. However, the mechanism of action is very different. Botulinum toxin relaxes the muscle, so no wrinkles are visible when someone makes facial expressions. A filler agent fills wrinkles. Wrinkles caused by the ageing process can be filled with a filler agent.

Permanent fillers are prohibited in the Netherlands. They do not consist of natural substances that occur in the body, and they are not broken down by the body due to their composition. The reason that these fillers are no longer allowed is because of the possible complications that can occur. Due to their non-natural composition, infections, palpable lumps and capsule formation may occur around the filler. Nowadays, it is always decided to use temporary fillers that can be broken down naturally by the body. Complications, therefore, hardly occur. Should the result be disappointing or should a complication occur in the exceptional case, this filler can be easily dissolved with hyaluronidase.

A filler treatment at Betan Clinics is always performed safely. The plastic surgeons only use A-brand products that are 100% natural, biodegradable and soluble in every situation. Due to the exceptional expertise and experience of the plastic surgeons, we can guarantee that the treatment is performed qualitatively and safely.

That depends on the region you want to have treated. One region is larger than the other, and one wrinkle is deeper than the other. The plastic surgeon will always discuss with you during the free consultation what a treatment will cost you. For an overview of the rates, go to our rates page.

Fillers are not allowed for pregnant women, breastfeeding women and people with muscle weakness, respiratory or swallowing problems.

It is not allowed to have filler treatment during your pregnancy. There is no scientific evidence that the filler is harmful to your unborn child; however, there is no evidence to the contrary. In this respect, the plastic surgeons of Betan Clinics do not take any risk, and we advise against it.

The fillers used at Betan Clinics are temporary fillers based on hyaluronic acid. There are numerous fillers with different ingredients. In the past, permanent fillers were also used in the Netherlands. Have you already been treated with a filler? Then try to find out which filler you have been treated with. Have you been treated with a permanent filler? Then we advise you not to be treated in the same area anymore.

Before the treatment takes place, you will receive a digital questionnaire with medical questions. In this questionnaire, you will also be asked about your medication use. The use of medication is generally allowed during filler treatment. The plastic surgeon will check your medication and give advice if necessary.

For a filler treatment, you do not have to stop smoking. However, do realise that smoking has a significant impact on skin quality. Smoking has a negative effect on the blood circulation in the tissues and therefore accelerates the ageing process of the skin. By quitting smoking, you slow down the ageing process of the skin.

After everything surrounding the treatment has been discussed with you and pictures have been taken, you sign a treatment agreement. After this, the skin to be treated will be cleaned. You can choose to apply an anaesthetic cream to the skin. In most cases, it is decided to combine the filler with an anaesthetic, such as lidocaine. The filler is injected with a thin needle, and the plastic surgeons will ask in between to make certain facial expressions, such as the lip-spouting, laughing or cheek-bulging, so that the plastic surgeon can properly assess the folds and wrinkles. The result of the filler is immediately visible.

A filler treatment takes an average of 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the size and number of regions you have treated. Sometimes it is decided to combine a filler treatment with a botulinum toxin treatment. Make sure you are in the clinic at least 15 minutes before the treatment.

A filler treatment can be painful or sensitive. In general, the procedure is not experienced as painful because of the measures we take. The plastic surgeons at Betan Clinics only use fillers that contain an anaesthetic (lidocaine), making the procedure virtually painless. For really sensitive procedures (e.g. around the mouth, such as the treatment of smoking lines) we administer a number of anaesthetic injections on top of the anaesthetic before starting the treatment. We always perform a filler treatment of the lips with an extra thin needle, so that the treatment is virtually painless.

After a filler treatment, it is allowed to go back to work immediately. It is a treatment that is done within 30 minutes, and the effect is immediately visible. Most people are presentable the same day and go back to work.

You do not have to wear a bandage after the treatment. If there is a small bleed caused by the injection, you will be given a bandage that you can remove the same day.

After a filler treatment, the skin may still be a bit red and swollen. This usually pulls away the same day and takes a maximum of a few days. At the injection site, a small bruise may appear which will also completely disappear after a few days. A bruise can easily be camouflaged with make-up. Most people are presentable the same day.

The result of a filler treatment is immediately visible. The skin can still be a bit red and swollen. This will disappear the same day or within a few days. After this, the end result can be judged well.

How long the effect of a filler remains visible depends on several factors. A filler is a product that is broken down naturally by the body. How quickly this happens varies from person to person. The duration also depends on the type of filler used. At Betan Clinics, we mainly use Belotero. The result of this filler can be visible for up to 12 to 18 months. Over time, the effect will gradually diminish.

If you are not satisfied with the result after the treatment, this can be discussed with the plastic surgeon at the check-up appointment. We will always discuss the expected results with you before you undergo treatment. If you are not satisfied, we will look together with you for a suitable solution. If you want to undo the treatment, the plastic surgeon will take care of this. With the agent hyaluronidase, the filler can be easily dissolved without any residual symptoms.

We advise not to expose the treated skin to the sun for at least one week. Are you going outside? Apply sunscreen to the skin.

We advise you not to go to a solarium or sauna during the first week after a filler treatment.

You are allowed to play sports after a filler treatment. Make sure you avoid contact with or pressure on the treated area during the first few days. This could impact your results negatively.

We advise not to undergo any facial massage, peeling, exfoliation or microdermabrasion for at least the first two weeks after a treatment. These treatments are very intensive for the treated skin and should be avoided in the first recovery phase. If you have any doubts whether a treatment is allowed or not, ask the plastic surgeon who treated you.
